As a first generation citizen, Erika understands the cultural barriers her community faces when dealing with mental health. Her passion for helping people led her journey to becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor. It is important to Erika to help bring down the barriers by supporting people dealing with life challenges.
Working towards becoming well can be tough, especially when there is a stigma associated with mental health that only some people need therapy. Erika wants to combat this myth. Anyone struggling should feel they deserve the help they need.
With a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a Master of Education in Counseling, Erika has the right education. She has experience working with adolescents, adults and families for a range of issues. These include family conflict, depression, self-harm, and anxiety. Erika uses various techniques, including dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, and exposure therapy. She understands that not one technique will suit everyone’s recovery. With a background using exposure therapy when working with adolescents, she helped them deal with school avoidance and anxiety.
Erika believes we are not meant to do this thing called life alone. She provides her clients with a safe, nurturing, nonjudgmental, and supportive therapeutic space to help them navigate the ups and downs of life. Erika is empathetic, genuine, compassionate, and builds genuine relationships with the people who choose her as their therapist.
With a passion for wellness and helping others, Erika also loves being a wife and mother.
Erika believes that anyone who seeks therapy has the power to embrace the difficult process to wellness to create a better life. She says, “Thank you for being willing to take this step towards wellness. As you move forward in your process of selecting your new therapist, I hope you begin to feel even more empowered about your journey ahead. Know that you can become well.”
