Michael Tavolacci is a dedicated Resident in Counseling with a strong educational background and diverse professional experience. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts from Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) in May 2021 and went on to earn a Master of Arts in Counseling from EMU in May 2024.
Michael has accumulated valuable experience over the years. He has two years of counseling experience in outpatient university counseling centers, where he co-facilitated expressive art sand- tray groups for individuals struggling with anxiety and a group therapy for male survivors of sexual assault through the Collins Center in Harrisonburg. Additionally, he has a background in nursing, having studied in New York and worked in hospitals and psychiatric hospitals. He also spent 1.5 years as a medical assistant at MAZE Men’s Health, a practice specializing in men's sexual health.
His areas of expertise include communication, relationship issues, life transitions, ADHD, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, and stress. Michael works with adolescents, young adults, and adults, utilizing an integrated approach to counseling. He blends person-centered, humanistic, and strength-based modalities, believing that through conversation and exploring one's inner world, clients can achieve peace and contentment.
Michael is passionate about helping clients realize their inner strength to make positive changes in their lives. He is inquisitive, understanding, and grateful for the opportunity to support individuals, couples, and groups.
Originally from Westchester County, New York, Michael relocated to Harrisonburg, VA in 2020 and then to Alexandria, VA in 2024. In his free time, he enjoys long walks with his fiancé, skateboarding with friends, rock climbing, and discovering new music. Exploring Northern Virginia and finding cool local coffee shops has been a delightful experience for him, as he is on a never-ending hunt for the perfect roast.
